Obama Nominates DOJ's Civil Rights Chief as Next Labor Secretary

President Barack Obama today nominated Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez, who has led the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division since 2009, to serve as the next secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Kagan, Holder Address the Five Decades Since Historic 'Gideon' Decision

Indigent defendants aren't entitled to "the best defense money can buy," U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan said on Friday at a U.S. Justice Department event marking the 50th anniversary of the high court's landmark Gideon v. Wainwright decision, which guaranteed that people accused of crimes have the right to a lawyer even if they can't pay.

Former Patton Boggs Employee Ends Retaliation Lawsuit

A lawsuit against Patton Boggs that made headlines for its description of a firm with a purported drinking culture has ended, according to recent court filings. The plaintiff, a former business development coordinator at the firm, dropped her claims against the firm in January and settled claims against a former firm employee last week.
