In human rights suits, activists target border protection agency

Immigration rights advocates have filed 10 suits around the country targeting abuses by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. The suits allege that CBP agents "routinely disregard basic constitutional protections and the human rights of immigrants and U.S. citizens," as well as overstepping the boundaries of their authority.



Court upholds fee award to 'Jersey Boys' producers: Ed Sullivan clip was obvious fair use

A federal appeals court has upheld a $155,000 attorney fee award to the producers of the musical Jersey Boys in a copyright infringement case over their use of a seven-second clip from The Ed Sullivan Show.

Feds spend big on outside legal work

To address an "extreme budget shortfall," Los Angeles County, Calif., Superior Court plans to close its alternative dispute resolution program on June 18 after 20 years in operation.



Covington adds second former member of Congress to lobbying roster

Former Representative Howard Berman (D-Calif.) will join Covington's public policy and government affairs practice group in Washington on March 25 as a senior policy adviser, the firm said in a Thursday announcement.
