Legal Group Leaders Say Sequestration Will Hinder Access to Justice

The leaders of three legal organizations warned Monday that the safety of judges and courthouse staff could be imperiled by state funding reductions and looming federal budget cuts, which reduce federal court security funding.

Prosecutors Recommend 78-Month Prison Sentence for D.C. Defense Lawyer

Calling him the mastermind of a conspiracy to manufacture trial evidence in a drug case, federal prosecutors in Washington are recommending a longtime defense lawyer here spend more than six years in prison.

Damages Awards for D.C. Government Doubled in 2012

The District of Columbia won more than $20 million in litigation damages in 2012, but will be on the hook for $17.1 million in settlements and judgments, according to testimony last week before the D.C. Council by Attorney General Irvin Nathan.

McKenna Long Opens Northern Virginia Office With 12 Laterals

McKenna, Long & Aldridge has added 15 attorneys to its litigation practice, including 12 in northern Virginia. Five partners and seven associate counsel will join the firm in its new office in McLean, Va. All the laterals were previously with Dombroff Gilmore Jaques & French. The firm is also adding an office in Miami.
