Accounting fraud cases plummeted during 2012

Class actions asserting accounting irregularities fell sharply last year following a one-time increase in 2011 attributed to a surge of Chinese reverse mergers, according to a Cornerstone Research report. Even so, accounting fraud cases brought larger settlements than most shareholder litigation.



Obama tries again to fill National Labor Relations Board

President Obama on Tuesday announced the nomination of two attorneys to fill seats on the National Labor Relations Board that were vacated by Republicans. Harry Johnson III and Philip Miscimarra, partners at Arent Fox and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, respectively, would serve five-year terms on the five-person board.



Citing prosecutorial misconduct, former Alaska official attacks conviction

A federal appeals court should not second-guess its decision to keep in place a bribery case against a former Alaska state lawmaker who was accused in the corruption probe that snagged the late U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, the U.S. Justice Department argued this week.

Cardozo journal's plan to honor Carter draws criticism

A group called the Coalition of Concerned Cardozo Alumni have called on Yeshiva administrators to rescind a planned award to former President Jimmy Carter in light of what they characterize as his anti-Israel actions.
